“When I arrived at the out-of-the-way hotel in the south of Sicily, I could smell the fragrant lemons being peeled for limoncello, a sweet and lemony liquor made throughout Sicily. I was warmly welcomed by our hosts and quickly put to work helping to make the libation. My senses continued to be peeked throughout the week-long, cooking school experience as we learned to make dishes with fresh, local produce that tasted so amazing I longed to have such flavours back home. The experience of making meals with a group of people, both locals and tourist, was equally amazing and made the work easy and fun. The cooking school staff were keen to have us experience both the tastes and treats of Sicily as we toured the area viewing baroque and gothic architecture and were encourage to taste gelato, ricotta, locally produced chocolate and so much more. We learned some wonderful recipes, which I've duplicated since returning to Canada and the flavours take me back to that mystical place that heightened my taste buds and left me with fond memories.
